Our journey at the Namibia Observatory is entering an exciting new chapter. This month, our team traveled to Farm Tivoli, one of the best stargazing locations in the southern hemisphere, to expand our observatory with two brand-new telescopes.
Why Namibia?
Namibia offers some of the darkest skies on Earth, with minimal light pollution and steady atmospheric conditions. Farm Tivoli has long been a hub for astrophotographers and astronomers worldwide, making it the perfect home for our expanding observatory.
The New Hardware
The two newly installed systems are purpose-built for real-time satellite tracking and high-precision sky observation. This setup significantly enhances our ability to follow fast-moving objects in orbit while still being able to capture high-quality deep-sky images.
With improved optics, wider fields of view, and refined motion control, the new hardware expands our capabilities in deep-sky imaging, time-domain astronomy, and collaborative research. Every component is optimized for maximum tracking accuracy and data reliability — ensuring seamless, precise observations across all missions.
The Journey & Setup
The expedition to Farm Tivoli was both a logistical and scientific endeavor. Transporting sensitive optical systems and precision mounts across continents required detailed coordination. Once on site, our team meticulously assembled, calibrated, and integrated all components into the observatory network — with particular focus on aligning the systems for high-precision satellite tracking and fully autonomous operation.
Looking Ahead
With all systems now purpose-built for satellite tracking and real-time observation, the Namibia Observatory is entering a new phase of capability. From monitoring orbital satellites to exploring faint galaxies in the southern sky, we’re ready to capture dynamic events and deliver sharper, more immediate insights than ever before.
Stay tuned as we share first light results, behind-the-scenes details, and the science this next generation of observatory technology will unlock.
