Webservatory® APPARILLIO Project with DLR

In an era of growing reliance on satellite-based infrastructure, protecting assets in orbit is becoming increasingly critical. At sciencentric® AG, we are proud to announce that we have acquired the license to the advanced space monitoring technology APPARILLIO®, developed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) – specifically by the Institute of Technical Physics.

APPARILLIO® is a cutting-edge system designed to monitor near-Earth space by detecting and cataloguing objects in orbit. Using an ultra-sensitive optical camera, the system can observe up to 500 previously unidentified objects per night – including satellites, space debris, and other potentially hazardous items – by capturing the sunlight they reflect as they move through space.

This step marks not only a technological milestone for sciencentric® AG, but also underscores the importance of close collaboration between research institutions and private industry. By building on the foundational work of DLR’s expert teams, we aim to contribute to a safer, more resilient orbital environment – and to provide reliable space situational awareness (SSA) capabilities for civil, scientific, and security applications.

As satellite constellations grow and space becomes more crowded, monitoring the orbital environment is no longer optional – it’s essential. Satellites must be protected to ensure the continuity of Earth observation, communication, navigation, and defense capabilities. That requires systems like APPARILLIO® that can provide timely, accurate, and autonomous tracking of orbital objects.

Our partnership with DLR is a testament to what can be achieved when scientific excellence meets entrepreneurial commitment. Together, we’re helping to shape the future of space security and sustainability.

Stay tuned for more updates as we bring APPARILLIO® into operational use and expand our capabilities in the growing domain of orbital surveillance.
